Frequently Asked Questions
What maintenance is involved?
Normal, standard bike maintenance is required, other than that there is nothing extra to do for your electric bike.
Can I ride in the rain?
Yes of course you can. Our E-bikes are weatherproof, but NOT water proof. Submerging them in deep water will cause motor failure.
How far will the bike travel between charges?
This depends largely on how much you use the motor or pedal assist. Riding the bike like a scooter will see you get around 25km range. But the more you pedal the further you can stretch that.
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
Our New Zealand certified chargers will fully charge the battery within 4 hours.
Does the battery recharge when going down hill?
No they don't, the resistance required to achieve this makes it impractical on a light vehicle like a bicycle.
Is riding an E-Bike cheating?
YES!! Riding an E-Bike makes it possible to ride further, faster, and less sweaty than you might achieve on a normal bike. Who cares? Unless you are a super competitive rider, then that is the point. E-bikes open up the world of cycling to the great majority of us for whom a normal ride is simply unappealing. THAT'S THE POINT =)
What are the different modes that can be ridden in?
- Pedal Mode - Like a standard bike, no battery assistance. Range limited only by your stamina.
- Pedalec Mode - Motor activates only while you are pedalling, and reduces your effort by up to 80%.
- Throttle Mode - Ride it like a Scooter. - "Twist and Go"
- Walk Mode - Bike goes at a constant low speed, to allow for easy of pushing (up a step hill) or for walking and talking.
What does it cost to recharge?
Our batteries take around 0.25 units of electricity to fully charge, So at 20 cents a unit that's around 5 cents per charge.
What is the life of the battery?
Around 500 charging cycles.
